Eric Nkansah’s history, awards, and achievements

Eric Nkansah (Born December 1974) is a Ghanaian athlete specializing in 100m and is currently residing in Denver Colorado U.S.A. He is one of Ghana’s record holders in 4 by 100m with 38.12 seconds, achieved at the 1997 world championship in Athens where the Ghanaian team finished in the final race. He also participated in the 2004 Summer Olympics where he placed sixth in the 100m heat thereby missing out in the second round. After such disappointment, he came back to win a bronze medal in the 2006 African championships.

His personal best stands at 10.00 seconds, achieved in Nuremberg in June 1999. Nkansah currently holds a USATF level 1 field and track coaching certificate with the intent of becoming a coach someday.

Growing up in Sunyani, the capital of the Bono region in Ghana, he had his basic education at the urban council primary and middle school.

Eric started track and field from primary through middle school and then to Sunyani Technical School where he was selected to be part of the school team. He was later selected among the regional team and was the best sprinter among his peers. He got recruited to join the Ghana Prisons Service later and began competing for the nation afterward.

Nkansah got into professional competitions with his manager in Germany after Atlanta 96 and participated in several professional competitions.
